The basic differences between outdoor roller blinds and outdoor PVC blinds

If you’re in search of outdoor blinds, by now you may have realised that there are various types to choose from, but perhaps the two that you have found to be most common are outdoor roller blinds and outdoor PVC blinds.

Being an established manufacturer and supplier of outdoor blinds in Australia, I have found that most customers either choose PVC blinds or roller blinds for their homes. Today, I will look at each of these types of blinds, so you can decide which of the two is better suited to your needs.

Outdoor Roller Blinds

Outdoor roller blinds are made out of a single material, which can be pulled up or down automatically. These blinds are much easier to use than PVC blinds because of the automatic features which make use of a revolving cylinder for operation. Modern day outdoor roller blinds make use of a dog clip and do not need a post for installation. They are made out of many different types of fabrics, the most popular being acrylic canvas, privacy mesh and marine grade PVC. Outdoor roller blinds need to be installed by professionals, given that there are significant mechanisms to deal with during the installation process.

Outdoor PVC Blinds

Outdoor PVC blinds are manually operated blinds, which are made out of PVC fabrics and are typically supported with a frame structure. PVC blinds are an excellent and cost effective alternative to roller blinds and they are available in either clear or tinted colours. Outdoor PVC blinds, such as what we supply here at Global Shade, also come with coloured borders and accessories and can complement existing décor and structures. While PVC blinds are easy to install, it is recommended that you make use of a professional installer who can effectively seal structures and make the blinds more effective. (Read my installation guide if you take on this as a DIY project.)

Conclusion:

Outdoor blinds are a great way of shading a building and they are available in a variety of types and designs to choose from. However, outdoor PVC blinds and outdoor roller blinds are the most popular and you should look to make a selection between these two types.

While outdoor roller blinds and outdoor PVC blinds are very much similar and both successfully block out the sun and protect your home from harmful UV rays, the major difference between the two of them is that roller blinds are automatic, while PVC blinds are manually operated. Roller blinds are made out of a range of different fabric materials and are available in different colours and designs, whereas PVC blinds are usually clear or tinted and are accessorised by colourful borders.

Although outdoor roller blinds are easier to operate than PVC blinds, the latter, being manual, are a cheaper alternative to outdoor roller blinds.
